Herman Gunaratne (b. 9th February 1944), veteran Planter and popular author.

හර්මන් ගුණරත්න මැතිතුමා - ප්‍රසිද්ධ වැවිලිකරු සහ පොත් කර්තෘ.

Herman Malinga Gunaratne's father Richard Gunaratne's parents were Theadore Gunaratne of Weligama and Grace from the Don David family of Gintota. Herman was the elder son of the family and his Mother was Isla, the second daughter of K C Albert Silva of "Nalagiri", Lushington Road, Matara.

එතුමාගේ පියා තේ වතු හිමි වැලිගම ධනවත් පවුලකින්ය. එතුමාගේ මව මාතර ලෂිංටන් පාරේ "නාලාගිරි" හි ජීවත් වූ ඇල්බට් සිල්වා පවුලේ දියණියකි.

Herman studied at St. Thomas' College Mt. Lavinia and went on to manage some of the Island’s best tea plantations as the Plantation Manager of a large Sterling company. After the nationalisation of plantations, he joined the state sector and was the Regional Manager of over 100,000 acres of the best tea plantations in Nuwara Eliya.

He currently owns Handunugoda Estate in Tittagalla, Ahangama, which produces the world famous 'Virgin White Tea'. He is also the Deputy Chairman of Kahawatte Plantations which owns 20,000 hectares of tea and rubber.

Herman Gunaratne is the author of five books:
